Implementing Cloudflare on Infradox websites

Introduction

The increase of AI has a downside that affects all publicly accessible websites which results in performance degradation and in some cases even denial of service because of overload by scraping bots.

Also, the unrelenting attempts of attackers to hack into websites are an additional concern that must be dealt with.

To mitigate these threats, we are implementing Cloudflare proxies on our websites. This article explains how Cloudflare works, how that helps keeping your website performing smoothly and what we need from you to implement it.

What is Cloudflare

Cloudflare is one of the world’s largest networks. Today, businesses, non-profits, bloggers, and anyone with an Internet presence boast faster, more secure websites and apps thanks to Cloudflare.

To get an in-depth explanation, please visit the Cloudflare website where you can read all about it.

Short to say is it will help your website to fight off malicious bots and attackers, but also improve your website’s performance by functioning as a CDN (Content Delivery Network) that will cache and serve content through it’s global network.

What we need from you

To implement Cloudflare for your website, we need you to make a change to your DNS Zone. The DNS (Domain Name System), contains a zone file for each domain, e.g. infradox.com, that maps name entries to IP addresses or other DNS entries.

To make sure all website traffic is routed through the Cloudflare network, the NS entries need to be replaced with the Cloudflare name servers. If you can’t or don’t want to do this yourself, then we can make the changes for you.

If you want us to make the changed for you, then we’ll need (temporary) access to your DNS control panel. If you don’t know how to delegate control to your DNS, then you can ask your hosting provider how to do this.
